Serena sniffed the air faintly as she lay in bed. A familiar smell aroused her nose. Something was burning and she could smell it. She thought nothing of it, her neighbor burnt stuff every day so it wasn't anything new to the young angel. She just blocked it out as she tried to catch up on some sleep. She needed all the energy she could get in the future, she wasn't going to waste it now. With a yawn she curled up a bit tighter and hoped the smell would go away soon. _______________ Kazin wandered through the halls to get his bearings. This was the third time he had lost his room this week. His memory had always been extremely sharp so he just chalked it up his getting used to the giant building. He treaded silently through the halls as to not disturb any resident. Then he smelled it. Sulfur and thick carbon. He was all to familiar of that smell, it was a fire. This could not have been a good omen. He decided to investigate. _______________ A sharp knock came to Serena's door. She just mumbled something about Burner and turned over. No one needed to come to her, their couldn't have been a reason, and nobody was that close. Even so it barely roused her as she laid on her comfortable sheets. It was amazing how much this room suited her, the only thing it was missing was furniture for her child. If it had that it would have been more than perfect. The knock came again, louder this time. Serena jumped from her bed to her feet. "What do you want!?" she yelled as she put on a light dress to answer the door. "Madam!" came a rather strange voice from the other side of the door, "You have to leave now! There is a fire in the building!" Serena rush to the door and flung it open to find a strange lizard creature looking up at the ceiling keeping it's huge crest to the ground. Serena almost fell over at the sight of the creature but was not really effected due to the shock of the news. She looked down the hall to see a billow of smoke starting to come toward them and flood the small space. The Creature grabbed her and through her to the ground face first. Serena still stunned didn't do much. "We are getting out of here!" The Creature snarled as it crawled forward. Serena just stared at it, thoughts flooding her head. She couldn't believe there was a fire, and this creature was stranger than she had ever seen. She stood up and walked toward the billow. If there is a fire it would only be right if I die in it, there is nothing outside of here for me and my child. Besides, she would go out in a way Burner might be proud of. Yes, that would make everything right. Serena felt a sharp blow to the back of her head, then it all went black. ___________________________ Kazin and two other people crawled down the smoke filled hall, he knew he had seen a fire escape route somewhere in this direction. He had to get out, he just had to help these people. So the pressed on as fast as possible, hoping to out run the flash over that he knew would come soon. That is when he saw it, a giant lizard beat a young woman over the head with it's own fists. How barbaric and during such a time to. He couldn't risk a Blaze now, the temp increase would cause the flash over to accelerate immensely. He just rush forward and covered the fallen woman with his body to absorb any further blows. "Don't hurt this woman anymore beast!" Kazin shouted. "Harm her? I preventing her from getting killed, she was walking toward the fire," The lizard muttered as it looked at Kazin, "I know the way to the fire escape. Please follow me." Kazin sighed and nodded as he slung the young woman over his back. The other two nodded as well and the five continued to move along. __________________________ "Madam? Are you okay?" Serena faintly herd the voice as she came to. She could also feel the cold stone against the back of her head. She couldn't remember a thing, let alone think of a face to go with the voice. Her head hurt and somebody was talking that was all she knew at this moment. She slowly opened her eyes. It was dark and the air felt damp, she came to the realization. She was in the caves and she must have been pulled from that fire. A shiver went over her spine thinking of what might of happened in there. A young elf sat in front of her with his hand on her forehead. She smiled lightly to him but was only met with a stale look. "Are you okay?" He repeated. She only nodded and he took his hand off his head and turned to a large lizard. "So that's two dead of burns and bleed?" The lizard stated bluntly. The word burn tapped a nerve in the back of her brain, she shifted for comfort. "Yes, at least this one is okay, save the bruises from transport," the elf said with a hint of sadness in his voice. She just looked at them, her rescuers. She owed them her life. "Well then, I shall be off," The lizard said as it turned down toward a fork on the tunnel. "Why? Where are you going?" the elf questioned. "Else where, I need to be alone," the lizard replied. The Elf only nodded and lifted to his feet. The Lizard walked off . Serena reached up her hand as the elf assisted her to her feet. She only then noticed her broken leg and his heavily bandaged mid section. They leaned on each other for support. "So back to rubble madam?" The elf asked. "Sure ain't anywhere else to go. By the way the names Serena," She smiled at her rescuer. "They call me Kazin, I only I hope that I could be as helpful as could to you," He said trailing off near the end. "I'm sure, but thank you for the assistance," Serena replied as the two started awkwardly down the corridor. They wobbled like a some sort of old broken machine. "You should have thanked that creature, he saved your life back there," Kazin smiled as they continued to edge along. Serena was silent further more all the way back to the Hotel sight. _______ Caborros lay dead, all of his reserves depleted. He used the last of his strength to help pull those people from the fire, now he would sleep in peace.
